Hitler Mastered Facebook Before Mark Did

Have you noticed that the world of Social Media seems to operate solely on extremes? Post: “the sky is blue” and while few will disagree with you, only a few will like what you’ve written. It’s just not interesting.

Professional sports can really get the blood pumping. “My team is better than yours because…” Now you’ll start to see folks jumping in to the fray. For & against your given cause… I mean team.

Then there are headlines and politics. They all lump together in a complete opinion fest. It’s what people find interesting, which explains the profitability of the mainstream news programs. Yet it again, just like your personal status, can rarely acquire any audience by riding the fence on anything. Controversy is a necessary component for our drama hungry society.

You may be surprised by who is the real expert on this topic:

“It is a mistake to make propaganda many-sided, like scientific instruction, for instance.

The receptivity of the great masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.

As soon as you sacrifice this slogan and try to be many-sided, the effect will piddle away, for the crowd can neither digest nor retain the material offered. In this way the result is weakened and in the end entirely cancelled out. ” – Adolf Hitler

Yes, Adolf Hitler was an original expert on social media. Is this really a game we should want to play? Having our emotions slung around like a ball on a tennis court, is not what we were designed for. Therefore the next time you find yourself in a “debate” do ask yourself how valuable any of the prior “debates” have been. To summarize Mr. Hitler himself, there is no purpose to balanced mass dialogue. Mass dialogue is driven almost entirely by extremes. If you’re not willing to take Hitler’s advice, then your contributions will “piddle away” in deference to those who do. To them I will point out, if you find yourself following in the footsteps of a beast, then you may well be a beast yourself.
